There is so much to say about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, for starters, if you were to have a side-by-side comparison of the previous mode the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Fold 5 you won’t be able to pinpoint the exact difference from the overall design. As much as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 offers you a bigger screen when folded, will be able to review the main features that make this device stand out.It is available at Mobihub Electronics.
Samsung poses stiff competition to the Google Pixel smartphone lineup with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with the smartphone costing Ksh. 323,000 making it Ksh. 73,000 more expensive compared to the previous excellent Fold 4 model. The main difference between the build and design is that Fold 5 is thinner by two millimeters to be exact in measurements. But there must be a reason why Samsung is pushing the limits with their foldable devices. Let us dive into this review and see if it is worth your money.
As mentioned earlier, the overall design of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is thinner compared to the last model and that is because the Samsung team worked their magic to ensure that the device is light in weight at only 253 grams while measuring a thickness of 13.4mm when folded. One thing that I enjoyed seeing with this new year model is the fact that the Flex Hinge mechanism found on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 allows the phone to perfectly close leaving no gaps in between. As much as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is thinner and lighter compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 it doesn’t make any major differences in terms of the performance of the device.
When folded the Galaxy Z Fold 5 measures 154.9 x 67.1 x 13.4 mm when it is unfolded you get to enjoy a bigger screen at 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.1 mm. The overall build of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, while the front when folded it has a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 when unfolded the display is made up of plastic material and of course, on the sides, Samsung ensured to include an aluminum frame that has a tougher drop and resistance to scratches. Other features included in the overall design of the phone are the volume controls on the edge of the camera setup, giving the phone a flat panel such that when you place it on a desk you are still able to use it perfectly.
When folded the display screen of the Z Fold 5 measures 6.2 inches with a screen resolution of 904 by 2316 pixels, This is a bit narrow especially when you are using the keyboard because the content feels too cramped in the space, but the display still looks really good and works perfectly enough when you are handling different tasks ont eh phone such as listening to music, sending messages and other quick things. When unfolded the screen measures 7.6-inch display with a screen resolution of 1812 by 2176 pixels. One thing that I was happy to see is Samsung provided you an IPX8 water resistance giving you peace of mind when using the device. The front panel’s glass of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 provides you with an enjoyable experience when viewing content at the highest peak brightness level.
Samsung has been famously known to produce cameras that take amazing content, if your sole purpose in buying the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is to take content I would recommend that you have a look at the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the phone’s camera will give you a better experience unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 5. That being said the Fold 5 has a triple rear camera of 50MP wide camera that has a 3x optical zoom, with a 10MP telephoto camera that comes with a focal point of 2.4 and a 12MP UltraWide camera. Not to mention that the Fold 5 comes with a signal processor as part of the chipset Snapdragon that comes with the device. Other camera features for the Fold 5 include LED flash, HDR, and panorama. Samsung did make improvements with this upgrade compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera.
You will realize that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 can take realistic photos that are full of bright colors. Keep in mind that if you are taking photos when the sun is shining bright then the photos will appear overly saturated. When you turn on the night mode, you will realize that the images are a bit sharper. One thing that I love most about the camera of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the unlimited tricks that are placed in your hands when shooting content. Some of these include, you can take selfie images with the main cameras plus you can also take videos and photos hands-free by propping up your phone. The images of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are amazing but cannot match the images that can be taken with Samsung’s S23 or better yet the Pixel Fold that have proven to become better competitors for Samsung.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 presents itself as a flagship device thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the same processor that we find in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This chipset makes your phone super fast when you are playing fast games and when you unfold the phone you get even a better screen to enjoy everything. The processor also enables you to operate more than 8 applications making this phone perfect for anyone who is looking forward to purchasing a device that can enable them to multitask efficiently.
On top of a fast processor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 operating system is Android 13 on top of Samsung One UI 5.1.1 which enables your taskbar to operate smoothly enabling the Fold 5 to multitask smoothly where different applications are pulled to one big screen. To add on this you can purchase this device in three storage options. The first is 256GB with 12GB RAM, the other option is 512GB with 12GB RAM Lastly if you can exhaust a whole 1TB you can purchase it with 12GB RAM. This storage option can accommodate all the applications and content that you want to store on your phone.
Samsung ensured that the Z Fold 5 comes with a battery capacity of 4,400mAh same battery that is found in the Z Fold 4. This battery can comfortably last you for 2 days straight when being used for gaming, watching videos, taking content with the camera, or when you connect it to any of your other Samsung accessories like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic or the Samsung Buds.
Take note that when you purchase this item from Phonesstore Kenya, Samsung hasn’t included the charging block, That being said, the phone supports 25 watts fast charging that can get your phone up to 100 percent in 80 minutes. In the box, you are going to get a USB Type-C to Type-C cable that you can use to transfer files from your phone to a laptop plus charge your phone.
As the fifth generation of the Galaxy Z foldable devices, it is no lie that Samsung has done a superb job in making the Z Fold 5 thinner, and lighter with better-built features such as the camera and a faster processor with a better battery life. You can purchase this phone in the following color options Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Gray, and Blue.
